A-wassail, a-wassail throughout all of this town!
Our cup it is white and our ale it is brown
Our wassail is made of good ale and true
Of nutmeg and ginger, the best you can brew,
chorus
Fol the dol, for the dolly-dol, for the dolly-dol,
fol the dolly-dee,
Fol the dai-rol, fol the daddy, sing tooral aye do!
2
Our wassail is made of the elderberry
And so my good neighbour we sing unto thee
and where youve one barrel, why we hope you have ten,
So that there will be wine when we call again
3
Our wassail is made of the cider good true
And so my good neighbour we sing unto you
And where youve one apple why we hope you have ten
So then therell be cider when we call again.
4
Our master and mistress how they sit by the fire
While we pour wassail, boys, do freeze in the mire.
So come pretty maiden with your golden head at pin
Open the door and let us come in.
5
Now we poor wassail boys we grow weary and cold
Soldier up some small silver into our old bowl
And if youre alive for another new year
Perhaps we may call and see you do live here.
